The Mission of the United Methodist Men is to To Help Men Grow In Christ, So Others May Know Christ.

At First United Methodist Church, we have an active group of men who truly has a heart for the “church in mission”. We meet each month on the second Sunday for a regular business and fellowship meeting to discuss our upcoming projects, to eat together, and to have devotions. Our “Methodist Men’s Club” is composed of a diverse group of men of all ages who have a desire to serve our Lord through action – mainly with the emphasis on missions.

In 2010, we started having a monthly Community Breakfast on the third Saturday of each month with the proceeds to be donated to a worthy organization or project that we feel fits our criteria of “serving God in mission”. Participation in this event has sometimes been exciting and at other times challenging. The great benefit of these monthly gatherings has been to bring us much closer together and has created a bond to will forever exist. We have found that working together to further God’s mission can be great fun. We work hard at what we do, but we have a lot of fun doing it!

We have been fortunate to have raised thousands of dollars for local, national, and international missions. It is a great blessing to be able to give so that others in need may benefit. A small sampling of organizations we have helped are Kenya Partners, UMCOR, the Alexander County Rescue Squad, the Alexander County Animal Shelter, the Domestic Violence Resource Center, Hospice of Alexander County, Caring Hearts Pregnancy Center, and others. We have also been able to provide “scholarships” to men and women who are willing to participate in disaster relief teams who have gone to Louisiana and Alabama and to persons who have gone to Guatemala on mission teams.

If you have been a long-time member of First Methodist or have just joined us, you are welcome to become a part of our group. You will get a spiritual lift from our work and your “heart will be warmed” by our fellowship. Welcome!
